BLEND SETTINGS cont... (page 4 of 4)

Some Object Blend Examples.

OK, now that we know how to use the Object blend controls, what can we do with them. The answer is one hell of a lot - and we haven't even looked at the possibility of using the different Merge Modes that are also available from this dialogue box.

Figure 30. The two objects used in the following series of examples of Object Blends. The circular objects were filled with a radial blend from two almost identical blues but in a direction back through the entire colour spectrum.

To demonstrate the use of blends further I have constructed a pair of circles with colour gradients that extend through the entire colour spectrum. Here are some examples and the settings used to create them. Figure 30 shows the circles and also the Objects Docker showing the two objects plus the background.

Take a look at Figures 31 to 34 to see some of the simple but quite spectacular changes you can create simply by modifying the Object Blend properties. Try it out on text and on combinations of more complex images.

Figure 31. Blended Circles - Example 1.
The topmost circle remains on top but with its yellow areas transparent

Figure 32. Blended Circles - Example 2.
The topmost circle now appears to be underneath the other with all of the reds and blues removed.

Figure 33. Blended Circles - Example 3.
The upper circle now appears underneath but slicing through the circle below it.

Figure 34. Blended Circles - Example 4.
Both circles now appear to be on the same plane but slicing through each other. The red centre and blue border of the lower circle object appear above the upper circle object. The whole things seems a bit 3D to me.

Well, that's it for Object Blends in PP9. Why not have a break and then return to find out what else is new in Photo-Paint 9.
