image gallery - building the stairs

the stairs building project was undertaken in 2006 from March to May (about 3 months) with some planning and design work in February 2006.

The new stairs were built to add a new entry method to the house as the old concrete stairs were slippery in the wet and being somewhat uneven, were a bit dangerous, not to mention pretty ugly. We thought a lot about how we wanted this new entrance pathway to look and in the end decided it was much more appealing to climb down around our magnificent Gravillia Robusta tree using 4 mini decks, 3 flights of stairs and a ramp to reach from the driveway down to the front door. All of the timber used is treated plantation pine, a completely renewable resource.

This project was a bit tricky but a lot of fun and we think the results are quite spectacular. In the near future these wooden stairs will be stained a natural colour.
